KVPY

KVPY or Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is an annual scholarship program conducted by the Department of Technology & Science, Government of India. KVPY is aimed at motivating the students for pursuing a research career in Basic Science. Contingency and Scholarships are granted to the candidates qualifying the talent test (up to the pre PhD level).

Every year, KVPY is conducted to search and select highly motivated and exceptionally talented students with unprecedented thought process and capabilities. The main objective of this program is to identify and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in India.

KVPY 2021 Important Dates

Opening of the online application portal : 6th September 2020

Date for closing of online application : 30th October 2020

Download of Admit Card : 2nd week of January

Date of Exam : 31st Janaury 2021

KVPY 2021 Eligibility

Stream SA

  • The candidate must be enrolled in 11th Standard Science stream during the academic session of 2020 and 2021.

  • Must have secured a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in Maths and Science subjects (65% for ST, SC & PWD candidates) in their class 10th board examinations.

  • The fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join for an undergraduate course in Basic Science (B. Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Math./ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S. ) in the academic year 2022-23 after having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in Science Subjects in the XII Standard /(+2) Board Examination. 

  • During the interim period of one year, they will be invited for National Science (Vijyoshi) Camp and their travel expenses and local hospitality will be met by KVPY. 

Stream SX

  • The candidate must be enrolled in 12th Standard Science stream during the academic session of 2020 and 2021.

  • Must have secured 75% of marks in Maths and Science subjects (65% for ST, SC & PWD candidates) in their class 10th board examinations.

  • The Fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join for an undergraduate course in Basic Science (B.Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Math./ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S.) in the academic year 2021-22 after having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects in the XII standard/(+2) Board Examination.

Stream SB

  • Must have secured 60% of marks in Science subjects (50% for SC, ST & PwD candidates) in 12th class board exams and 1st year of B.Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. are eligible to appear for the aptitude test. 

  • Students enrolled in the 1st year of B. Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Math./ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S. during the academic year 2020–21 are eligible.

KVPY 2021 Exam Pattern

​Stream SA

  • The examination for the SA stream includes subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

  • The examination is conducted for 3 hours.

  • The test is conducted in two parts. The number of questions in part 1 of all the subjects is 60 and part 2 includes 20 questions. It is mandatory to attempt all questions in all the subjects.

  • In part 1, every correct answer is given 1 mark and for every wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted.

  • In part 2, every correct answer is given 2 marks and for every wrong answer, 0.5 marks will be deducted.

  • The total marks allotted for the question paper is 100 with a total of 25 marks for each subject.

Stream SB/SX

  • The examination includes subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.

  • The examination is conducted in 2 parts. Both parts include questions from all four subjects.

  • Duration of the examination is 3 hours.

  • In part 1, candidates can answer 3 sections (20 x 3 = 60 marks) out of four sections. One mark is allotted for every correct answer and 0.25 marks deducted for incorrect answers.

  • In part 2, they can attempt 2 sections (20 x 2 = 40 marks) out of four. Two marks are allotted for every correct answer and 0.5 marks deducted for incorrect answers.

  • Candidates must attempt 80 questions in total.

  • Total marks for the question paper is 100.
